Indiana Grown

Butler Winery and Vineyards is located just 10 minutes north of downtown Bloomington, Indiana and produces over 5 acres of grapes. We have proudly been growing grapes in Bloomington for over 25 years. Our vineyard sits within the northern boundaries of the Indiana Uplands Viticultural Area. This region in south central Indiana produces quality wines of a distinctive character.
Butler Winery grows 6 different grape varieties that flourish in our midwestern climate. Chambourcin and Norton make up the red varieties with Chambourcin being a staple for our winery. Our Chambourcin grapes are included in 5 different wines that we produce. We also grow Chardonel, Seyval Blanc, Vidal Blanc, and Vignoles grapes; all white varieties with excellent fruit flavors and have a crisp finish. All of our grape varieties are French-American hybrid grapes. These grapes have been specially developed to have the disease resistance and cold hardiness of the American varieties with the rich flavors and tannin structures of French varieties. They are the best of both worlds and are indispensable to the Indiana wine industry.

Production

At Butler Winery we produce over 12,000 gallons of wine every year! Our mission at Butler Winery is to make quality wines from Indiana grown grapes.  It is the winemaker’s duty to capture that essence of romance from the vineyard and capture it in the bottle. At Butler Winery, we have everything from dry wines aged in French Oak barrels to sweet fruity wines; you’re sure to find something you’ll love.

Foggy Ridge

Our good friends and neighbors Rodney and Nancy Anderson grow an additional 2 acres of grapes for us as well. They named their vineyard Foggy Ridge for the fog that blankets the grapes in the early morning. They grow one acre of Marquette and one acre of Traminette grapes. Marquette is an early ripening variety that was developed in Minnesota to withstand sub-zero winter temperatures. Traminette is Indiana’s signature wine grape and can grow abundantly throughout the state of Indiana.
